Welcome to Rift Ranger
Rift Ranger is a location-based RPG where your real-world steps power your character. Walk your neighborhood, battle monsters in turn-based combat, build towns inside magical Blue Rifts, and hatch creature companions from eggs. This guide covers everything you need to know for your first week of play.
Choose Your Class
Your first decision is your character class. Each plays very differently:
- Turtle — Highest HP (80 base), physical tank. Straightforward, hard to kill. Great for beginners who prefer durability over flashiness.
- Cat — Lowest HP (50 base), but devastating arcane/fire/frost magic. High crit chance (18%) and dodge (10%). A glass cannon that rewards aggressive play.
- Owl — Balanced healer/damage hybrid. Holy and shadow magic, self-sustain through healing. Tactical and flexible, but requires more planning than the Turtle.
Recommendation for beginners: The Turtle. Its high HP forgives early mistakes while you learn combat timing.
The First Six Quests
The intro quest chain teaches you every core mechanic:
- Escape the Shadow Realm — Walk 1,500 steps to resurrect from the tutorial death state.
- Grow Stronger — Collect 3 XP Cards by hitting your 3,000-step daily goal.
- Explore the Rifts — Open Emerald Obelisks and reach Level 2.
- Hunt the Forest Shamans — Use bait to attract enemies; collect 10 Blue Rift Shards.
- Meet Me Inside a Blue Rift — Find and enter your first Blue Rift.
- Laying the Foundations — Place 6 Safe Spots inside a Rift World.
Your Daily Loop
Once you're past the quests, Rift Ranger's daily rhythm looks like this:
- Walk to generate energy and hit your daily step goal for XP Cards.
- Open Emerald Obelisks as you pass them for gold, bait, and materials.
- Drop bait and fight enemies to earn combat XP and Blue Rift Shards.
- Maintain your streak — every consecutive day you hit 3,000 steps builds your streak toward milestone rewards.
- Complete one daily bounty for bonus prizes.
Combat Basics
Combat in Rift Ranger is turn-based. Each turn you choose one skill. Resources:
- HP — Reaches 0 and you die (Shadow Realm penalty).
- Mana — Spent on skills. Regenerates 10 per turn. Your 10-mana filler skill is always available.
- Adrenaline — Builds as you deal/take damage. At 100, unleash your class Special.
Tip: Always kill Forest Shamans first in group encounters — they heal allies and apply poison.
Blue Rifts and Town Building
Blue Rifts are portals to private 3D worlds where you build settlements. To enter:
- Restore a dormant rift using 10+ Blue Rift Shards (dropped by enemies).
- Walk within 300 meters of an active rift and tap to enter.
- Inside, place Safe Spots, then build a Mayor Statue to found your town.
Each structure you build provides real gameplay benefits — Stone Wells give daily Buckets of Water, Campsites provide housing and free flasks, and Brock's Forge lets you repair equipment.
Streak System
Hit your daily step goal every day to build your streak. Milestone rewards arrive at 7, 14, 21, 30 days and beyond — including Streak Shields (miss a day without losing your streak), Golden Flasks, and Leaderboard Points.
Pro tip: Set your goal to 3,000 steps (default) to start, and upgrade it when you reach 7-day milestones.
Quick Tips
- Open every Emerald Obelisk you see — they're your primary source of bait and materials.
- Repair your equipment at Brock's Forge regularly — broken gear provides no stat bonuses.
- Invest talent points into one branch for stronger focused bonuses.
- Share your referral code with friends — you both earn gold, gems, and energy flasks.
